Non-For-Profit Organisation
Shugoofa Bakhtary was born into a highly educated family in Sheberghan, Jawzjan province, Afghanistan. She completed her education at Khadija-e-Jozjani High School and graduated from Balkh Medical College. From a young age, she developed a deep passion for poetry, literature, and writing short stories, often immersing herself in the works of Hafiz and other prominent Afghan writers and poets. Due to the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan, Shugoofa left her homeland and settled in Australia, where she has lived for the past two decades.
She made significant contributions to the Bakhtar Association’s monthly magazine and was recognized with the Woman of the Year Award in March 2022. She founded the Shugoofa Association in November 2022, creating a platform for Afghan poets and writers to showcase their talents and promote Afghan culture. In addition to her literary achievements, Shugoofa is a skilled anchor, hosting a weekly podcast and managing a YouTube channel. She has published two books (Bughs dar Nafase Shehr)
بغض در نفس شعر (Sorrow in the Breath of Poem) and (Ketab Ra Baz Nakun) کتابم را باز نکن (Do Not Open the Book)
Shugoofa is married and has two sons and a daughter.
Shugoofa goal is to empower Afghan women and all women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds by providing a platform for them to connect with other talented women whose voices have been silenced by cultural and political barriers.
Since its establishment in 2022, the Shugoofa Association has organised numerous cultural events that celebrate Afghan culture, fostering mutual understanding and cultural exchange through poetry, art, and music. Shugoofa weekly podcasts, interviews, and public cultural events have created a platform for many talented individuals to express themselves and connect with a broader audience.
